The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent’s Nightmare

At the heart of one of Britain’s most high-profile missing person cases, The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent’s Nightmare tells the devastating story of 19-year-old Leah Croucher, who disappeared while walking to work in Milton Keynes in February 2019.

Told through the eyes of Leah’s parents, John and Claire, and her sister Jade, the documentary follows the family’s search for answers across more than three years, from the first hours after Leah vanished to the discovery of her body in October 2022. With intimate testimony and rare access to the family, the series explores both the investigation and the profound impact Leah’s disappearance had on those closest to her.

Gelato was proud to contribute to the series, working to produce motion graphics to help build a clear and sensitive visual narrative around Leah’s story.

Particular care was taken with the treatment of investigative material. Rather than allowing the graphics to overwhelm the story, the visual language was designed to give the interviews space, guiding viewers through key moments, locations and developments while keeping Leah and her family at the centre of the film.

The resulting imagery helps trace the case from Leah’s last known movements and the enormous search that followed, through years of uncertainty and ultimately to the discovery that transformed the investigation. Graphic elements act as visual anchors throughout, connecting the chronology of the case with the deeply personal experiences of Leah’s family.

Drawing on years of access to the Croucher family and Thames Valley Police, The Search for Leah Croucher: A Parent’s Nightmare goes beyond the circumstances of Leah’s disappearance to examine its lasting consequences and the questions raised by her death. The result is an intimate and deeply moving account of a family’s search for answers, their determination to keep Leah’s story alive and their campaign for change.
